Accugen Labs offers a full range of efficacy tests to support products claimed as bactericidal, sporicidal, germicidal, virucidal, tuberculocidal and fungicidal.

Hard surface disinfectant tests include:

  • AOAC Use Dilution Test

  • FDA and EPA guidelines for testing hard surface disinfectant to determine the efficacy of disinfectants against three organisms, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, and Salmonella enterica, on hard surfaces. The methodology is based on AOAC methods.

    Following are different claims:
    1. Limited efficacy claims. The label of a disinfectant which is effective against a specific major group of microorganisms only (e.g., Gram-positive or Gram-negative) .

    2. General or broad-spectrum efficacy claims.
Label claims of effectiveness as a "general disinfectant" - effective against a broad spectrum of microorganisms -effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

    3. Hospital or medical environment efficacy claims.

Label claims for use of disinfectants in Hospital or medical environments-effective for general or broad-spectrum disinfection and additionally against the nosocomial bacterial pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

    4. Other microorganisms. Substantiated label claims of effectiveness of a disinfectant against specific microorganisms other than the designated test microorganism(s) , provided that the target organism is likely to be present in or on the recommended use areas and surfaces and thus may present a potential problem.

    Sample Requirements
For 3 organisms, 60 carriers each, 3 lots, sample volume of three plus liters is required.

Confirmatory: 10 carriers, two different lots- 100 ml plus per lot
  • Fungicidal Activity Tests

  • To determine fungicidal efficacy of a product, tested against Trichophyton mentagrophytes.
Sample Requirements:Two lots of the product are tested against 10 replicates(carriers) each.

500 ml per lot are required.
  • AOAC Germicidal Spray Products Test

Sample Requirements:Volume dependent upon spray applications.

Confirmatory:Two lots of the product are tested against 10 replicates each.
  • AOAC Sporicidal Products Test

  • Two types of surfaces (porcelain penicylinders and silk suture loops) are tested against spores of both Bacillus subtilis ATCC 19659 and Clostridium sporogenes ATCC 3584 on three product samples from three different batches, one of which is at least 60 days old (total of 720 carriers).
Sample Requirements: Three plus liters from each lot.
  • Pre-Saturated Towelettes Test

  • Sample Requirements:Number dependent upon applications.
  • Contact Lens Solution Efficacy Test

  • Virucidal Efficacy Tests

  • AOAC Confirmatory Tuberculocidal Activity Test
